The short version
HobbyAnchor helps you commit to one hobby and park the rest. To do that it stores what you tell it: an email address so you have an account, the hobbies you name, the sessions you log, and anything you choose to keep from a session — one photo or one short voice memo per session, plus an optional note.
We do not track you across other apps or websites. There is no advertising, no advertising identifier, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
Four companies process data on our behalf: one hosts the database, one receives crash reports, one receives product analytics, and one delivers the emails the app sends you. They are named in full below. All four store the data in the United States. Your photos, your recordings and your notes go only to the first of them.
What HobbyAnchor collects, and why

If you use Sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, HobbyAnchor only ever receives the relay address Apple generates. Apple provides a name exactly once, at first authorisation; HobbyAnchor stores it as your display name and never overwrites a name you have since chosen yourself.

Photos and the microphone. HobbyAnchor asks for access only at the moment you attach something, and only for that purpose. It does not read your photo library, and it does not record unless you press record. An attachment is uploaded to private storage that only your account can read; every time the app displays one it has to request a short-lived signed link.
Your notes, photos and recordings are never sent to the analytics or crash reporting services. They exist only in the database and file storage described below.
Usage events
HobbyAnchor records product events — for example that onboarding reached a given step, that a session was logged, that a curiosity was captured. They carry the event name, a small payload of non-content values (such as a step number or a count), and a timestamp. No event carries the text of a note, the name of a hobby, or an attachment.
These events are written to our own database, and also sent to PostHog, a product-analytics service, so that we can see where people get stuck in the app. The same events go to both; there is not a second, larger set collected for the analytics service. PostHog additionally records which screen of the app you are on, when the app is opened, and standard device and app properties — the app version, the device type, the operating system version, the language and the time zone.
We have turned off PostHog's session recording, its error capture and its in-app surveys. The app never records your screen.
Before you have an account there is no account to attach an event to, so the app generates a random device identifier and stores it locally. It is a join key for the setup funnel and nothing else: it is not derived from your device, it identifies no person, it is never used for advertising, and it cannot be attributed to a real user account after signup. Events are dropped rather than queued when you are offline.
Crash reports
When the app crashes, a report is sent to Sentry. It contains the error and the sequence of code that produced it, the app and operating system version, the device model, and a short trail of what the app was doing beforehand.
It carries your account's random identifier and nothing else about you — no email address, no name, no IP address. That identifier is there so we can tell one person hitting a crash four hundred times from four hundred people hitting it once, which is a different problem. Web addresses in the trail are stripped of any access token before the report is sent. No screen recording is ever captured.
Crash reports are not sent from development builds.
Account confirmation and password reset emails are delivered by Resend. To send you an email, Resend necessarily receives your email address and the contents of that message. It is not used for marketing and you are not added to any list.
On your device only
The app keeps some things locally that are never uploaded: your part-finished setup answers (so closing the app mid-setup does not lose them), a cache of your own data so the app opens instantly, small interface preferences, and the random identifier above. Deleting the app removes all of it.
What HobbyAnchor does not collect
- No location of any kind.
- No contacts, calendar, health, or fitness data.
- No advertising identifier (IDFA), and no App Tracking Transparency prompt, because nothing here tracks you across other companies' apps or websites.
- No push notification tokens. Reminders are scheduled locally on your device by iOS — no server sends you anything, and no server is told when you are reminded.
- No payment information. HobbyAnchor has no in-app purchases.
- No browsing history, no keystroke logging, and no screen or session recording, which both the analytics and crash reporting services are capable of and both have switched off.

That is the complete list. HobbyAnchor sells nothing, shares nothing for marketing, and hands nothing to data brokers. Each processor is bound by a data processing agreement requiring protection equivalent to that described in this policy, and processes data only on our instructions.
All four processors store the data in the United States. If you are outside the United States, your data is transferred there under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, or the equivalent mechanism for your jurisdiction.
We may disclose data if legally required to, and will tell you unless prohibited.
How long it is kept
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. There is no automatic expiry: the point of the app is that a record of what you have done survives.
Deleting your account deletes it. In the app: Settings → My Data → Delete account. This removes your account record, your hobbies, your sessions, your notes, your attachments and your events. It is immediate and it cannot be undone. Backups containing already-deleted data are overwritten within 30 days.
Crash reports and product analytics are kept by those services under their own retention schedules and are not linked to your email address. Deleting your account removes the identifier that connects them to you.
Signed links to attachments expire seven days after an export, and much sooner inside the app.
Your choices and your rights
- Export everything. Settings → My Data → Export everything, which produces a plain JSON file of your hobbies, sessions and notes that you can keep or send anywhere.
- Delete everything. Settings → My Data → Delete account, as above. You do not have to contact us and you do not have to explain.
- Reminders are off until you turn them on, and can be turned off again in Settings, or revoked entirely in iOS Settings.
- Camera, photos and microphone permissions can be withdrawn at any time in iOS Settings; the rest of the app carries on working without them.
- Correction. Every stored answer is editable in the app.
Depending on where you live you may also have the right to access, correct, port, restrict or object to processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Write to support@hobbyanchor.app and we will answer within 30 days.
Where we rely on consent — attachments, notifications — you can withdraw it at any time by the routes above, and withdrawing it does not affect anything done before you did.
Children
HobbyAnchor is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, write to support@hobbyanchor.app and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the effective date above, and if the change is significant we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
